Great day yesterday – our candidates were really switched on business owners and lots of advanced learning went on. I think there’s going to be some really powerful web marketing happening within those businesses.
One thing that came over loud and clear is a willingness to learn new online marketing techniques but a fear that it’ll all be way to technical to understand. The truth is that it’s the implementation of the work that might take a tame techy to do it, it’s the thinking, the strategy and the understanding behind it that matters most.
If you couldn’t attend then I hope to see you at our next one but until then I’ll give you something as a takeaway…
Your website is really direct response display advertising, and the king of this who literally re-wrote the rules on what works is David Ogilvy. His book “Ogily on Advertising” is the seminal work on what does and doesn’t work in advertising and in fact much of what he wrote about included marketing. Read Ogilvy on Advertising and you’ll understand a heck of a lot more about ads and marketing than the average web designer.
It’s about getting noticed sure, but it’s about getting a reaction, prompting a response and no one was better at doing it than Ogilvy and his agency. If you don;t think that his work is still relevant then click the link below and read the 2 minute case study. To prove you don’t need to re-invent the wheel here’s a really powerful case study that will take you 2 minutes to read and understand and proves that good thinking in marketing and advertising endures.
Here’s to the next Jump Start event!
